Make Phone Calls the Smart Way with Signia Hearing Aids
Whether professional or personal: the telephone is the ubiquitous means of communication. In noisy environments such as open-plan offices, in the street or on the train, making phone calls can present a particular challenge for hearing aid wearers. With the new Signia hearing aids with TwinPhone program, using the telephone is now easy and convenient, even in challenging hearing situations. And thanks to easyTek™, the hearing aids can even be connected directly to Bluetooth-enabled phones and work as a headset for wireless hands-free operation.
Stress-free phone calls: simple, anytime and anywhere
“Hello Mr. Smith**, how are you? I just wanted to ask if the migration to the new software went well.” As a customer advisor, the telephone is the essential tool of the job for Robert Maier**: whether it be for initial contact, clarification of outstanding questions or support after successful conclusion of the transaction – when it comes to customer retention, a one-to-one conversation is far more effective than an e-mail. That is why Robert often likes to pick up the phone, or rather he does again now: before he had his hearing aids, it was on the telephone that he first noticed he often had to ask questions because he did not fully understand what his conversation partner was saying. When he got his first hearing aids, however, making phone calls was not really any easier than before. Often enough, background noises in the office overlapped with the customer’s voice.
Understand every word without strain
It was not until he got his new Signia hearing aids that he began to enjoy using the telephone as much as before: he holds the receiver to his ear as usual and makes calls – as simple as that. And he understands Mr. Smith perfectly, even though his colleagues in the open-plan office are also making calls, chatting or typing on the keyboard.
TwinPhone is the name of the function that makes using the telephone so easy for hearing aid wearers. As soon as Robert holds the receiver to his ear, the telephone program is activated. With this program, the hearing aid behind his ear not only amplifies what the conversation partner is saying, but also automatically transmits it wirelessly to the hearing aid behind the other ear, so Robert hears his conversation partner in both ears. This allows him not only a high level of speech understanding despite many (often quite loud) background noises in the open-plan office, but also considerably reduces hearing strain.
The smarter way to make phone calls
Robert finds telephone and video conferences on his computer even more enjoyable than before: while his colleagues always have to put on a headset first, he simply presses a button. This is because he has invested in a very practical accessory for his Signia hearing aids called easyTek™: a connection device for transfer via Bluetooth. It transfers the sound from Bluetooth-enabled PCs, tablets, smartphones, MP3 players and televisions directly into both hearing aids. The central element and intelligent interface of easyTek™ is a button located in the middle. If Robert’s phone rings, he can accept and end the call using this button. And because the sound of the telephone ringing is also transmitted directly, Robert no longer misses any phone calls, even in very noisy environments – such as right now on the overcrowded train on his way home. With his smartphone, it is even easier for Robert to use all the smart hearing aid functions, thanks to an app for Apple and Android devices. This app allows the wearer to switch between hearing aid programs and adjust their volume, for example. Robert likes to use it and switches back to the music program after the phone call to listen to music for the rest of the way – in HD quality, and so simple via his hearing aids.

* Study conducted at the University of Northern Colorado, 2015, examined the effectiveness of the new features of primax by collecting and analyzing ongoing EEG data while subjects performed speech testing. For both primax features SPEECH and EchoShield, the objective brain behavior measures revealed a significant reduction in listening effort when the feature was activated.
